Building an incubator for the next generation of scale-ups
SEB wanted to help their customers who emerged from the ‘start-up’ phase with a proven business model and revenue over 10m SEK continue to scale
Working with SEB, Result created the Scale-up Lab, a 10-week program for companies that want to scale their business at a higher pace
Key Outcomes: The Scale-up Lab has since the start of 2017 touched over 30+ companies and established SEB as a much more attractive bank for this segment
We inspire over 300 hand-picked startups each year by connecting them with mentors and with Google competence (AdWords, TechStack). In essence, we took parts of the premium offering Google has for premium spenders and gave them to startups. We offer free space for 40+ companies with capital raising days two times each year.
Key outcomes: The program has been running for its 4th year, with over 1000 startups met and inspired. 100+ startups in our ecosystem mentored and sat/sit for free. One of the companies, Flyte, was even awarded the Time Magazine’s ‘Invention of the Year’.

How do you transition from a traditional way of working to an agile organization across Sweden?
We ran an intrapreneurs program for 100+ employees from Sweden to form teams. build prototypes and pitch their ideas to the management. 1 was implemented 12 weeks later. 40+ people started working with more agile toolkits in their daily job which pushed their regular projects at higher speed
How do you get management to support bolder tests and initiatives?
We ran sessions with management to inspire and help them build bridges to support more innovative ideas.
Building new ventures for innovation
1) Evaluate investments
We interviewed the internal startup teams for 2 internal ventures to find out if the market was interesting, analyzed their business model and concluded that one should be killed, and one should be continued. The management followed the recommendation
2) Kickstart innovation
Defined what innovation in two sectors (AI and energy-as-a-service) mean for them by mapping out all internal initiatives, showing clarity on what unfair advantages there are. Support and set governance model for their innovation and entrepreneurship board by matching them with 12 companies after long-listing 100+ companies. Set up pilots for 2 business units to have a common infrastructure to drive innovation: scoped the pilot, onboarded teams, and coached them.
3) Solve business challenges through partnership
Catalogued their business challenges that can be solved as part of these 2 areas through interviews and build a hypothesis grid. We sit as an advisory in their steering committee groups and sets structures to work together.
- 1 Pilot using AI
- 3 new venture building cases presented based on gaps identified
- 1 internal venture being built
- Clearer governance model
Bringing digital innovation to the core business
1) Launching an intrapreneurship program within the company

Resulted in faster execution of digital projects and career development for employees whose digital skills would not have surfaced otherwise.
2) Customer labs to run pilots on key business challenges
Brought key strategic customers from the Nordic region to run pilots on business challenges. Over 50+ tech disruptors met over 20+ customer days, with 17 pilots run with key customers to differentiate, test new business models and build the perception of being a digital partner.
3) Running Nordic Prop-tech initiative
Ran 2 big events with Nordic Prop-tech initiative, attracting over 400 companies (both established and new) making it the largest Nordic prop tech community for established players and new entrants.
4) Special projects for the owner group to find new value creation routes through investments or new venture building
Clearer governance and steering committees to have mandates, budgets and resources allocated for pilots and scaling. Investment mandate of 10M€ to invest in tomorrow’s stars within prop-tech that could benefit the group, resulting in 8 investments made.
Epicenter: a digitally driven revitalisation of Stockholm’s city center
Tested a new business model innovation to change their leasing model in buildings from fixed to dynamic short term contracts. Piloted the concept with Epicenter in a 8.000 sq.m building that was over-subscribed within 6 weeks, until a bigger building of 30.000 sq.m was acquired to scale the Epicenter concept. Epicenter resulted in higher yield than the traditional rental model.
Building an innovative workspace
Worked with our innovation lab methods to create a “future office” concept and validate the idea of “urban escape”, resulting in permits, licenses and other regulatory hindrances being cleared to revitalise the whole Stockholm city center district. Attracted future tenants with focus on digital scale ups and corporate leaders who want to drive digital innovation (over 50, including Spotify, Google, global/local tech companies).
